Sterilize the Probe:

  • Ensure the probe is properly sterilized before use to maintain infection control standards

Patient Preparation:

  • Position the patient comfortably and provide adequate lighting for clear visibility

Insertion:

  • Gently insert the probe tip under the gingival margin into the sulcus, using light pressure until mild resistance is felt at the junctional epithelium. Avoid excessive force to prevent tissue trauma and inaccurate readings

Positioning:

  • Keep the probe as parallel as possible to the long axis of the tooth. Use a stable finger rest (fulcrum) to control hand movement and minimize discomfort

Measurement:

  • Use a gentle “walking” motion, moving the probe 1–2 mm along the sulcus and re-inserting at each point to measure pocket depth around the tooth. Record measurements at multiple sites per tooth—typically three on the buccal and three on the lingual surfaces

Reading and Recording:

  • Read the depth using the probe’s scale markings and record the values for each site. Healthy pockets are generally up to three millimeters; deeper readings may indicate periodontal disease

Aftercare:

  •  Carefully remove the probe after examination and re-sterilize it for future use
  • Surgical-Grade Stainless Steel: Ensures durability, corrosion resistance, and long-lasting use
  • Blunt Ball Tip: Minimizes tissue trauma and allows gentle probing for accurate pocket depth measurement
  • Non-Fading Dark Scale: Easy-to-read, permanent markings for precise and reliable readings
  • Design: Provides comfortable handling and reduces clinician fatigue during prolonged use
  • Autoclavable and Reusable: Can be sterilized at high temperatures for repeated, safe clinical use
  • Latex-Free Construction: Suitable for patients with latex allergies
  • Pocket Depths: Essential for diagnosing and monitoring periodontal disease and assessing gum health
  • Detects Subgingival Calculus: Assists in identifying calculus and evaluating gingival bleeding
  • Available in Variants: Options for epidemiological or clinical use to suit different diagnostic needs

Description

Waldent WHO Probe (15/739) is a precision periodontal instrument made from surgical-grade stainless steel, featuring a blunt ball tip for gentle and accurate probing. It includes an easy-to-read, durable, non-fading dark scale designed to measure the Periodontal Screening Index (PSI), aiding in early detection and assessment of periodontal disease severity. The probe’s ergonomic, lightweight design reduces clinician fatigue and enhances working efficiency. Its corrosion-resistant, passivated surface ensures long-lasting durability and rust prevention. The probe is autoclavable at high temperatures for effective sterilization and is latex-free for patient safety. It is used to measure pocket depths, detect subgingival calculus, and assess periodontal health, enabling dentists to determine the need for further diagnostics and appropriate treatment planning. This reusable instrument is essential for comprehensive periodontal screening and diagnosis.
