  • For a maxillary extraction, the chair should be tipped backward and the maxillary occlusal plane is at 60 degrees to the floor. The height of the chair should be adjusted such that the patient’s mouth is at or below the operator’s elbow level. 
  • For all maxillary teeth, the position of the dentist is to be front and right (and to be left to the left handed dentist).
  • Left upper molar extraction forceps has sharply pointed beak on buccal and round palatal beak.
  • The curved side of the handles should rest in the palm of the dentist. The forceps is held with the palm under the forceps.
  • Retract the lip and cheek and support the alveolar process by using the thumb and index finger of the left hand. 
  • Following movements are performed for extraction of maxillary molars-



  1. Apical grip
  2. Labial movement
  3. Palatal movement
  4. Dilation of the socket and final delivery.

Upper Left Molar Forcep :

- As the Maxillary Molar has a single Palatal root & two Buccal roots, the two blades of its forces are different.

- Palatal blade is rounded and designed to grasp one root.

- Buccal blade contains a projection & is designed to grip the Mesiobuccal and Distobuccal root above Bifurcation.

- Two forceps for two different quadrants (upper).
