Patient Positioning:

  • Ensure the patient is comfortably positioned in the dental chair with the head tilted backward.
  • Adjust the chair so that the maxillary occlusal plane is at approximately 60 degrees to the floor.
  • Position the patient's mouth at or below the operator's elbow level for optimal access.

Dentist Positioning:

  • Stand or sit in front and to the right of the patient (for right-handed dentists) or to the left (for left-handed dentists).
  • Hold the forceps with the curved side of the handles resting in the palm of your hand, with your palm positioned under the forceps.

Preparation:

  • Retract the patient's lip and cheek to expose the tooth to be extracted.
  • Support the alveolar process (the ridge containing the tooth sockets) using the thumb and index finger of your non-dominant hand (left hand for right-handed dentists).

Extraction Technique:

  • Use the Waldent Tooth Extraction Forceps Upper Molars Right, No.89 (1/115) for the extraction of upper molars on the right side of the mouth.
  • Apply an apical grip to firmly grasp the tooth's root structure.
  • Perform labial (toward the lips) and palatal (toward the palate) movements as needed to loosen the tooth within its socket.
  • Dilate the socket gently if necessary to facilitate the tooth's removal.
  • Once adequately loosened, deliver the tooth from its socket with controlled force, avoiding excessive pressure to minimize trauma to surrounding tissues.

Aftercare:

  • Ensure the extraction site is thoroughly inspected for any remaining root fragments or debris.
  • Provide appropriate post-operative instructions and care recommendations to the patient for optimal healing and recovery.
