Preparation: 

• Ensure the suction tube is properly sterilized and all equipment is assembled. Confirm the suction unit is set up and functioning, with the correct pressure adjusted according to manufacturer guidelines

Patient Positioning: 

• Place the patient in a comfortable, supine position with adequate head support to allow easy access to the oral or surgical site

Connection: 

• Attach the curved suction tube securely to the suction system tubing

Operation:

• Hold the suction tube in your dominant hand for better control
• Gently insert the curved tip into the mouth or surgical area, directing it toward the site of fluid or debris accumulation
• Use the curved design to access deep cavities and hard-to-reach areas without causing trauma
• Keep the suction tip close to, but not touching, tissues to avoid mucosal injury and prevent clogging

Suctioning:

• Activate suction by covering the control vent (if present) with your thumb
• Move the tube gently around the area, suctioning for short intervals (no longer than 10–15 seconds per pass) to prevent tissue trauma or hypoxia
• Avoid prolonged suctioning in one spot and do not stimulate the gag reflex

Completion and Cleaning:

• Once suctioning is complete, withdraw the tube carefully
• Clean and sterilize the suction tube and associated equipment according to infection control protocols before storage or reuse
