• Prepare the Patient: Ensure the patient is comfortably seated in the dental chair with appropriate lighting and suction available.
• Select the Correct Forceps: Identify the specific tooth to be extracted and choose the corresponding forceps from the set based on tooth type and location (e.g., upper incisors, lower molars).
• Anesthetize the Area: Administer local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth to be extracted, following standard dental anesthesia protocols.
• Isolate the Tooth: Use dental isolation techniques such as cotton rolls or a rubber dam to keep the extraction site dry and free of saliva.
• Position the Forceps: Hold the selected forceps in your dominant hand, ensuring a firm grip on the handles.
• Grasp the Tooth: Carefully position the beaks of the forceps around the crown of the tooth, ensuring a secure grip. For multi-rooted teeth, grasp the tooth as close to the gum line as possible.
• Apply Pressure: Use controlled, steady pressure to rock the forceps back and forth, gradually loosening the tooth from its socket. Avoid excessive force to minimize trauma to surrounding tissues.
• Extract the Tooth: Once the tooth is sufficiently loosened, use a gentle and firm tug to remove it from the socket. Ensure smooth, continuous movement to prevent fracturing the tooth or damaging surrounding structures.
• Inspect the Socket: After extraction, inspect the socket for any remaining root fragments or debris. Use appropriate instruments to remove any residual material if necessary.
