a) Fabrication of Trial Denture Base:

Purpose: The trial denture base is fabricated using the Shellac base plate over the final impression model to facilitate recording the occlusal relation and teeth arrangement.

Heat the Shellac Base Plate:

  • Heat the Shellac base plate directly over a flame to soften its consistency, making it adaptable.

Adapt the Plate:

  • Apply the softened plate onto the gypsum model with uniform pressure to maintain the trial denture thickness at 1-2mm.

Trim Excess Shellac:

  • Use a hot wax knife to cut away any Shellac extending outside the model.

Mold the Borders:

  • Mold the borders to maintain the flange thickness, providing extra strength to the trial denture base.

b) Fabrication of Custom Impression Trays:

Purpose: The custom impression tray is fabricated to provide an accurate recording of the secondary impression in completely edentulous patients.

Draw Tray Extension:

  • Draw the desired tray extension on the plaster model.

Heat the Shellac Base Plate:

Heat the Shellac base plate over a direct flame to achieve an adaptable consistency.

Adapt the Plate:
